It is a useful resource for gardeners who want to grow food gardens for reasons including enjoyment, health, flavor, cultural identity, or savings, and want to do so in ways that support healthy people, communities, and ecosystems. "Garden" is used in this book to mean small-scale food production by households, community groups, schools, or workplaces, and that includes vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and sometimes flowers, growing in defined plots, as well as in less well defined locations, such as a tomato and basil plant in a pot on a balcony, a row of olive trees along the street, or a bitter melon plant in the corner of a courtyard. The book aims to help readers ask questions and find answers for understanding food gardens, roles in a changing world, and for reaching their learning and food gardening goals for themselves, and for the world around them. It will also be a good introduction for researchers to important food garden issues needing further study. |
