Contents:
Aquatic animal species and organism relationship -- Bacteriological culture techniques : microscopy, culture and identification -- Interpretation of biochemical identification tests and sets -- Biochemical identification tables -- Technical methods -- Techniques for the molecular identification of bacteria -- Preparation of media for culture and identification.
Abstract: This book discusses conventional bacterial identification procedures, commercially available data-based identification kits and molecularly-based PCR and 16S rDNA sequencing techniques with the aid of numerous tables and colour plates. The biochemical, biophysical and molecular characteristics of nearly 400 species of aquatic bacteria and the media on which they are cultured are presented along with a brief discussion of the diseases they are associated with. The emphasis is, however, on bacteria from farmed aquatic animals. This practical user-friendly identification manual will be useful to researchers in veterinary science and animal health as well as aquaculture and microbiology.
