Abstract: This revised and updated book (the first edition was printed in 1998), presents information on intellectual property law in a simplified form. New chapters have been added, which cover plant variety protection and farmers' rights. The latter chapter provides a background to the impact of the policies and treaties on farmers' current and future rights. Specifically chapters cover: acquiring protection for improved germplasm and inbred lines; transferring intellectual properties; capacity building in intellectual property management in agricultural biotechnology; plant variety protection in the USA; farmers' rights; and economic aspects of intellectual property rights. In this second edition, there are also three new country chapters, Indonesia, Russia and Brazil, as well as other updated country chapters (EU, Costa Rica, Latin America, India, Japan, China, Australia, South Africa and Egypt). The book provides information on intellectual property management concepts and practical implementation, and is aimed at those working in biotechnology, breeding, agricultural economics, policy and law. The book has 19 chapters and a subject index.
