This book addresses the issue of animal welfare within the tourism experience. Part I of the book provides a conceptual and historical foundation upon which to analyse animal welfare and the position of animals in tourism, and how these two issues intersect. Part II consists of 14 opinion pieces that discuss various issues associated with animal welfare and tourism. These pieces, presented as individual chapters, are written by tourism operators, tourism organizations, animal welfare and conservation organizations and advocates, or academics with particular expertise in the area of animal welfare and tourism and links to the industry. Part III talks about the future of tourism and animal welfare and charts a potential path for the future of the welfare of animals in tourism and a related research agenda. The book has 19 chapters, and a subject and author index.
